Pediatric RNs care for medically fragile newborns, toddlers, children, and adolescents (up to age 21), providing skilled nursing care in the comfort of home. They make informed observations, chart progress and setbacks for doctors and specialists to review, administer medical treatments and medication, and even provide caregivers with education. Establishing a plan of care and helping to create a structured routine are two very important tasks of pediatric home health nurses that empower families and help them establish a sense of normalcy.
